FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY | I AM SO AWKWARD IN PHOTOS, DO I HAVE TO BE IN THEM?

This is a question I have been asked a few times with family photography sessions and my honest and only answer is YES.. I promise, not only will your children absolutely love to see photographs of you; playing, interacting. They will cherish these forever! but you will also love them”

“…I EVEN LIKE MYSELF IN THE PHOTOS, WHICH IS A MIRACLE IN ITS SELF AS I REALLY DON’T LIKE HAVING MY PHOTO TAKEN. We will be booking another session in the future, that is for sure!” Laura

I am pretty good at making my families feel relaxed from the get go; mainly because I am friendly, I know we are going to get beautiful photographs but also because I TOTALLY understand not wanting to be in photographs. I know, I actually do not like it either, or the thought of it really. (Real life Chandler from Friends here! for some reason I just pull weird faces. Unless it’s a selfie as you can see what your doing…. but even then there are very questionable ones. Also there’s the personal insecurities we all have after having a baby or well just life.) so I totally get that feeling, which helps me understand how it feels when you’re that side of the camera. My aim is always to document your lives in a loving, meaningful, honest and playful way that you will love yourself in them… and your little ones will love it even more that you are in these photographs.

Here’s what the beautiful Laura had to say about her family photography session. I cried when I got this message and she has kindly let me share it with you all. My main aim is to capture you all as you are; in the most honest, playful, meaningful way. I want to show you; your personalities, your little mannerisms, the way you all look at each other, the way you interact, bed time craziness and everything in between.

QUOTE | LAURA, CALUM, JENSEN & GENEIVEVIE

“Becky I don’t know what to say…(8 crying emoji faces) we’ve watched the slide show, I AM STILL CRYING. I’ve just shared it with my family, they are all crying too. THE PHOTOS ARE INCREDIBLE!

So so so so grateful, I don’t know the words to thank you properly. We have just had a look through our gallery and just honestly BLOWN AWAY. You managed to captured the children’s cheeky personalities too! I even like myself in the photos, which is a miracle in its self as I really don’t like having my photo taken. We will be booking another session in the future, that is for sure!”

“I now see what you mean now about your photos capturing everyday life, as it’s a snap shot of how our life is right now, in the moment. We love the photos so much and I am sure when we look back it will bring lovely memories flooding back from when the children were little and the walks we used to go on.
I’ve realised now, our posed shoot that we did when Jensen was 6 months old didn’t show our personalities. Looking back I also found the posed photo shoot very awkward compared to your shoot, I hardly noticed you taking the photos and YOU MADE IT ALL FEEL REALLY NATURAL, ESPECIALLY FOR TWO PEOPLE WHO DON’T LIKE TO BE IN PHOTOS! Also somehow you made our house look lovely and the location we picked seem interesting as that was something I was having doubts about even the night before.”

There’s nothing to feel awkward about…

On a documentary family session, you don’t have to pose so there’s nothing to feel awkward about. We normally have a small activity planned so all the focus goes on that and you all playing / interacting and well.. just being together. Rather than the camera being there and posing. (We spend about 10-15 minutes, doing a lightly ‘posed’ photograph of you all, and only if would like one)

Your family photographs will not only look like you all, they will bring back the FEELINGS of how you all are. Here are a few photographs from Laura, Calum, Jensen and Genevieve’s family session. Thank you so much Laura and Calum, for letting me share these images and your very kind words. Thank you for being totally awesome, trusting and showing me a glimpse of your real family life on your photo session.
